Power-point presentation opens with Clair Fejes’ painting of “Snow Writing” and then with slides of various story knives and overview historical/cultural perspective of story knives (20 minutes with time for questions); then 20 minutes of personal experiences using story knives by Alaskans; finally, a (20 minutes) hands-on activity with trays of various substances (e.g.,sand, dirt, cornmeal, flour) and “knives” for participants to “craft” a story (we have a symbols handout) and an explanation of how this could be used as a pre-writing activity in a variety of settings.
